2nd April is Autism Awareness Day!

What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.

It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways.some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support.people with autism may also experience over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours.

Myself,my partner and our daughter took part in light it up blue. Light It Up Blue is a unique global initiative that kicks off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism.

  1. I am actually watching a documentary on autism on TV (BBC2 - Horizon - Living with Autism) right now. I must say its the best programme I have seen on explaining what autism really is.

  4. I think it's great to have days like this that really raise awareness :) It doesn't matter if you're different as everyone should be treated as an individual :)
